SHOOTING WOES STYMIE OAKWOOD IN LOPSIDED LOSS TO DILLARD

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Oakwood University had two players finish in double figures Monday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as Dillard University pulled away in the second half to come away with a 78-58 victory in the HBCUAC Crossover.

The game was tied 29 apiece at halftime, but the Bleu Devils outscored the Ambassadors 49-29 in the final 20 minutes to win going away.

After shooting just 39.4 percent in the first half, including 10 percent from 3-point range, Dillard shot a sizzling 62.5 percent from the field in the second half, including 50 percent from beyond the arc.

"It was a tale of two halves," Oakwood coach Simon Jacob said. "We played well defensively in the first half, but we didn't play with the same effort in the second half."

The loss, Oakwood's eighth in a row, dropped the Ambassadors to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in league play. Dillard improved to 6-4 and 2-1.

Jamarkus Alexander led Oakwood with 12 points off the bench. He was 5-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range. He also had four rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block.

Carson Badgett finished with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and was 2-of-3 from the free throw line. He also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Oakwood's starters combined for just 19 points on 7-of-29 shooting.

The Ambassadors shot 31.4 percent (22-of-70) from the field, including 25 percent (7-of-28) from 3-point range, and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the free throw line.

Bentravin Phillips led four Dillard players in double figures with 19 points. Tory Cargo and Ben Fort finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Khalif Allim added 12.

The Bleu Devils shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field, including 25 percent (4-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will visit Southern University at New Orleans tonight at 8.
