OAKWOOD HOSTS STILLMAN IN IMPORTANT HBCUAC DOUBLEHEADER

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Having already dropped a home game in HBCU Athletic Conference play, Oakwood University can't afford to lose many more. With only five more home conference games, the Ambassadors find themselves in a near must-win situation today when Stillman College invades Ashby Auditorium for an important doubleheader.

The women's game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7.

Women's Preview

Oakwood (1-3, 0-1) will host one of the hottest teams in the HBCUAC as Stillman (6-1, 2-0) comes to town riding a six-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Ambassadors have lost two in a row.

Saniya Keys and Trenisha Adams have been Oakwood's best players in the early going.

Keys, the reigning HBCUAC Freshman of the Week, is averaging 22.3 points and 14 rebounds per game. She is shooting almost 52 percent from the field.

Adams, a preseason All-HBCUAC first-team selection, is averaging nine points and 3.5 rebounds. She leads the Ambassadors in assists (11), steals (10) and 10 3-pointers. The rest of the team only has five 3-pointers.

Stillman will counter with a trio of guards in Jaida Minter, Raena Suggs and Jamariah Turner.

Minter is averaging a team-high 14.9 points per game. Suggs is next at 14 points per game, while Turner, who played locally at Lee High School, is averaging 12.6 points a game.

Men's Preview

The Ambassadors (1-5, 0-1) will try to snap their three-game losing streak with the Tigers (3-4, 2-0) in town tonight.

Oakwood has struggled in the early going, but coach Simon Jacob is hopeful his team can find a way to get in the win column.

"We've prepared for the test," Jacob said. "Now, let's go out and see if we can pass it. The only way to do that is to go out and get a win."

Jordan Bell has been the Ambassadors' best player in the early going.

A 6-foot-6 senior forward from Mobile, Bell is averaging 10.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Jeray Randall is averaging 9.4 points and 3.34 rebounds. He leads the team with 11 3-pointers.

Stillman has caught fire since opening the season with four straight losses.

The Tigers have rebounded nicely, beating Rust College, Fisk University and Southeastern Baptist.

Michael Taylor is averaging 17 points per game to lead Stillman. Joshua Price, who played locally at Sparkman High School, is averaging 16.7 points and 3.1 assists, while Calvin Finch is averaging 15.4 points and 8.3 rebounds.
