OAKWOOD FALLS TO FISK IN HBCUAC OPENER

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Fisk University placed five players in double figures Thursday afternoon and went on to beat Oakwood University 85-60 in the HBCU Athletic Conference opener for both teams inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play with the loss. The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 and 0-2.

Fisk led 28-14 after the first period and 48-24 at halftime and the outcome was never in doubt.

Saniya Keys led the Ambassadors with 15 points and nine rebounds. Nobody else had more than nine points.

Oakwood shot 28 percent (21-of-75) from the field, including 24 percent (6-of-25) from 3-point range, and 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the free throw line.

Jayla Bibbs led five Fisk players in double figures with 21 points. Dee Scott finished with 15 points, while Courtney Lumkins and A'Niya Yong scored 11 and 10, respectively.

Laila Eliotti finished with a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Bulldogs shot 46.8 percent (36-of-77) from the field, including 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood visits Rust College Saturday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
