OAKWOOD FALLS HARD TO FAULKNER

Huntsville, Ala. – Oakwood University fell behind early and never recovered Saturday night as Faulkner University came to town and left with an easy 85-48 victory inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors got 22 points and 12 rebounds from freshman sensation Saniya Keys, but nobody else had more than seven points as the Eagles won easily.

Oakwood fell to 1-2 with the loss. Faulkner improved to 2-1.

The Eagles came out firing and led 30-7 after the first quarter and 44-17 at halftime and never looked back.

The Ambassadors struggled mightily, shooting just 25.7 percent (18-of-70) from the field, including 6.3 percent (1-of-16) from 3-point range, and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the free throw line.

Ruthie Smith led five Eagles in double figures with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Sydney Steward had 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Grace Anne Rose finished with 12 points, while Keyarra Scottland and Dee Guinn had 11 apiece.

Faulkner shot 43.8 percent (35-of-80) from the field, including 33.3 percent (13-of-39) from beyond the arc, and 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood is back in action Monday at Shorter University in Rome, Ga. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
