KEYS PUTS ON A SHOW, BUT OAKWOOD COMES UP EMPTY IN SEASON OPENER

Pulaski, Tenn. – Saniya Keys put on a show in her first college game Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University fell 94-61 to Tennessee Southern in a non-conference game inside the Curry Athletic Complex.
 
Keys, a 5-foot-10 freshman center from Cottonwood, finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds.  She was 10-of-16 from the field and had one assist and one steal in 28 minutes.
 
Unfortunately, nobody else had more than seven points.
 
The Ambassadors fell to 0-1 with the loss. The Firehawks improved to 1-0.
 
Oakwood trailed 43-28 at intermission and 72-50 after three quarters before being outscored 22-11 in the final 10 minutes.
 
The Ambassadors shot 35.3 percent (24-of-68) from the field, including 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from 3-point range, and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line.
 
Ashley Dickey led six Tennessee Southern players in double figures with 18 points.
Lauren Smith finished with 16, Maggie Hale 15, Kassidy Broussard 12, Takiyah Goff 11 and Dayshia Reid 10.
 
The Firehawks shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73) from the field, including 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from beyond the arc, and 76.9 percent (20-of-26) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood will try to pick up its first win of the season Saturday night when it hosts Washington Adventist. Tipoff is 7.
