OAKWOOD EXPLODES IN THE FOURTH QUARTER TO BEAT WILEY COLLEGE

MARSHALL, TX. – Clinging to a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter Saturday night, Oakwood University exploded offensively, outscoring Wiley College 32-18 in the final 10 minutes enroute to a convincing 88-71 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory inside Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Ambassadors recorded season-highs in points (88), shooting percentage (50.8), 3-point percentage (46.7) and assists (20) in snapping their two-game losing streak.
 
"It was by far our most complete game of the season," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said. "We shot the ball extremely well. We defended at a high level and we shared the basketball. When teams do those three things, this is the result most of the time."
 
The win, Oakwood's second on the road this season, lifted the Ambassadors to 6-12 overall and 4-6 in league play. The Wildcats fell to 11-9 and 6-6.
 
Trenisha Adams led four Oakwood players in double figures with 25 points. She was 7-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-10 from 3point range, and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Adams also grabbed three rebounds, and had five assists and three steals.
 
Nekaya Williams was two rebounds and two assists shy of a triple-double. She finished with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range, grabbed eight rebounds and had eight assists.
 
Alecia Reasor finished with a career-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, five rebounds and three assists, while Jon'Toyrian McNeal scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
 
The Ambassadors shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field, including 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from 3-point range, and 70 percent (21-of-30) from the free throw line.
 
Cailan Hale led Wiley with 18 points. Alayia Francis finished with 14.
 
The Wildcats shot 36.2 percent (25-of-69) from the field, including 25 percent (5-of-20) from deep, and 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood is off until Saturday when it hosts Fisk University.
