ADAMS SHINES IN LOSS TO PHILANDER SMITH

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Trenisha Adams put together another superb performance Thursday night, but it wasn't enough as Philander Smith ran away from Oakwood University enroute to an easy 93-49 victory in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game at Mims Gymnasium.

Adams finished with 17 points and six rebounds on the night. She was 6-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. The rest of the team was a combined 12-of-51 from the field.

The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 5-12 overall and 3-6 in league play. The Panthers, who ran their winning streak to six in a row, improved to 15-5 and 8-2 while sweeping the season series.

The game started well enough for Oakwood. The Ambassadors trailed only 20-19 at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored 73-30 the rest of the way.
Jon'Toyrian McNeal backed Adams with nine points on 4-of-7 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.

Oakwood shot 28.6 percent (18-of-63) from the field, including 23.3 percent (7-of-30) from 3-point range, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the free throw line.

Ari Winston led five Philander Smith players in double figures with 33 points and 23 rebounds. Myia Yelder, the GCAC preseason Player of the Year, finished with 18 points, Shaniya Thomas 13, Elaijha Brown 12 and Isis Isom 11.

The Panthers shot 49.3 percent (36-of-73) from the field, including 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from deep, and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood visits Wiley College (11-8, 6-5) Saturday night at 6.
