OAKWOOD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VISITS PHILANDER SMITH IN IMPORTANT GCAC CONTEST

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Oakwood University women's basketball will visit Philander Smith University today in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game inside Mims Gymnasium. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
 
The Ambassadors (5-11, 3-5) enter the game in sixth place in the GCAC standings. The Panthers, one of the preseason favorites, are currently in second at 14-5 and 7-2. Philander Smith downed Oakwood 64-46 back on Dec. 7 at Ashby Auditorium.
 
The Panthers have been terrific at home, posting a 7-2 mark. Philander Smith is currently on a five-game winning streak.
 
Meanwhile, Oakwood fell 69-61 to Dillard in its last outing. The Ambassadors are just 1-6 away from home this season.
 
Trenisha Adams and Nekaya Williams, who were named to the All-GCAC preseason team, lead the way for Oakwood.
 
Adams is averaging a team-high 12.9 points per game and 4.6 rebounds. She leads the team with 41 3-pointers and is shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Williams is averaging 12.6 points per game and leads the team in rebounding (6.9), assists (48) and steals (22).
 
Dasia Turner and Elaijha Brown are averaging 10.8 and 10.6 points per game, respectively, to lead Philander Smith. Myia Yelder, the GCAC preseason Player of the Year, is averaging 9.9 points per game.
 
After today's game, Oakwood continues its two-game road trip at Wiley College (10-7. 5-4) Saturday at 6 p.m. The Wildcats downed the Ambassadors 75-59 back on Dec. 9 in Huntsville.
