Box Score HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Oakwood University fell behind early and never threatened Friday afternoon as Philander Smith College went on to claim an easy 69-48 victory in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Rust College's Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in the W.A. McMillan Center.
The loss, Oakwood's fifth in a row, dropped the Ambassadors to 4-16 overall and 2-6 in league play. PSC, which is now 2-0 against Oakwood this season, improved to 15-4 and 6-2.
Nekaya Williams (Lilburn, GA) led Oakwood with 12 points.
The Ambassadors shot 27.1 percent (16-of-59) from the field, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from 3-point range, and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the free throw line.
Oakwood hurt itself with 29 turnovers.
De'vena Smith and Meleane Williams led PSC with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
PSC shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field, including 23.5 percent (8-of-34) from 3-point range, and 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from the charity stripe. The Panthers outscored the Ambassadors 25-10 in points off turnovers, 16-7 in second chance points and 32-12 in points in the paint.
Oakwood takes on Rust College today at 5 p.m.
