OAKWOOD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VISITS STILLMAN COLLEGE TONIGHT

TUSCALOOSA – Oakwood University women's basketball will try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when it visits Stillman College tonight. Tipoff is 5:30 at Birthright Alumni Hall.

The Ambassadors, coming off of a 71-46 thrashing of Talladega College Saturday night, are 3-6 overall. The Tigers enter the game 5-3.

"We finally played like we were capable of playing," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said after his snapped its four-game losing streak. "We got contributions from a number of players and we shot the ball extremely well. Hopefully, that will carry over the rest of the week."

After tonight's game, Oakwood returns home Thursday to host Philander Smith University and Wiley College in a pair of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference games. By the end of the week, the Ambassadors will have played four games in eight days.

"We'd love to string together some wins before we break for Christmas," Abrams said.

Trenisha Adams (Rome, GA) led four players in double figures in the win over Talladega College.

Adams finished with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range. Nekaya Williams (Atlanta, GA) scored 13 points, while Denaj'za Jackson (Detroit, MI) and Hannah Cohn (Decatur, AL) chipped with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Ambassadors shot 51.1 percent (24-of-47) from the field, including a sizzling 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from deep.

Williams and Adams, who were named to the All-GCAC preseason first team, have led the way for Oakwood through the first part of the season.

Williams is averaging 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds, while Adams is averaging 11.9 points and 3.3 rebounds.

Stillman will counter with Farrah Pearson, a former Hazel Green High School standout.

Pearson, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, is averaging 11.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
