OAKWOOD WILL TRY TO PICK UP FIRST WIN AT FHU CLASSIC

Oakwood University will try to pick up its first win of the season tonight when it takes on Freed-Hardeman University in the FHU Classic at the Brewer Sports Center in Henderson, Tenn.

Tipoff is set for 7.

After a narrow loss in the season opener to Talladega College and a blowout at the hands of Stillman College, the Lady Ambassadors (0-2) will try to knock off the Lady Lions in this NAIA contest.

"We've got to be solid from the beginning of the game until the end of the game," Oakwood coach Aleshia Greene said. "We've had our moments in each of the first two games, but we've got to stay consistent for longer stretches to give ourselves a chance to win."

Oakwood fell 71-66 to Talladega College last Saturday night, before Stillman College cruised to an 87-63 victory Tuesday. The Lady Ambassadors trailed 37-28 at halftime to Stillman before getting outscored 35-11 in the third quarter and the outcome was never in doubt.

"We let the game get away from us," Greene said.

Stillman outscored Oakwood 52-18 in the paint, 29-12 in points off turnovers, 20-6 in second chance points and 40-24 in bench points.

Hannah Cohn leads three Oakwood players averaging double figures.

Cohn is averaging 13.5 points, while freshman Nekaya Williams is next at 11.5 points. Jayda Caldwell is pouring in 10 points per game.

Oakwood will play Stephens College out of Columbia, Mo., on Friday at 1 p.m.

Stephens is 1-0 after beating Benedictine College, Kan., 69-56. Stephens is led by Marveen Ross, who had 27 points and nine rebounds in the win.
