Box Score Oakwood University gave Talladega College all it could handle, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Tornadoes turned back the Lady Ambassadors 71-66 Saturday night in front of a raucous crowd at Ashby Auditorium in the season opener for both teams.

"Our students packed the house," Oakwood coach Aleshia Greene said. "They gave us a lot of energy. Although we came up short, I think we definitely  gave our crowd something to be excited about for this season."

The loss dropped Oakwood to 0-1, while Talladega improved to 1-0.

Nekaya Williams (Atlanta, GA), one of the Lady Ambassadors' top freshmen, scored 19 points to lead the way. Hannah Cohn also finished in double figures with 12 points. Keiah Dancy and Jayda Caldwell (Huntsville, AL) had nine points each.

 Je'Nya Wilder led three Talladega players in double figures with 20 points.
