OAKWOOD WILL TAKE ON STILLMAN COLLEGE IN 2026 HBCUAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University will take on Stillman College tonight in the opening round of the 2026 HBCU Athletic Conference Softball Championship at River Run Park in Northport.

First pitch is set for 7:30.

The Ambassadors, enter the championship as the No. 7 seed after finishing the season 12-14 overall, while the Tigers are the No. 2 seed after finishing 23-18.

Stillman swept Oakwood during the regular season, beating the Ambassadors 13-2, 13-5 and 10-1.

Oakwood is led by Anna Jones, Jordan Howard and Emma Newby.

Jones is hitting a league-best .514 and has a league-high .843 slugging percentage. She also has 26 RBI to go along with 14 doubles.

Howard is batting .500 with a .738 slugging percentage. She also has 19 RBI and 12 doubles.

Newby has been solid at the plate and in the circle.

She is batting .348 with 22 RBI and is 11-8 with a 5.29 ERA. Newby is second in the HBCUAC with 117 strikeouts and is averaging 7.13 strikeouts per game.

Four other Ambassadors - Toni Sims (.386, 11 RBI), Ka'Nijha Arrington (.338, 11 RBI), Sara Tate (.333, 8 RBI) and Mary McCluskey (.300, 16 RBI) - have also been solid for Oakwood.

Oakwood won two games in the HBCUAC Championship last season.

The Ambassadors opened the tournament by beating Rust College 9-1, before falling to Stillman 7.3.

Oakwood bounced back in a loser's bracket game to beat Voorhees 15-6 before being
eliminated in a 6-4 loss to Rust College.

Oakwood softball became the first team to win a postseason game since the school moved up to the NAIA level.
