BIG SECOND HALF LEADS OAKWOOD PAST UVI FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

NEW ORLEANS – A day after beating Tougaloo in overtime, Oakwood University used a big second half Friday afternoon to outlast the University of the Virgin Islands inside Dent Hall on the campus of Dillard University.

The Ambassadors erupted for 51 points in the final 20 minutes to beat the Buccaneers 85-75 for their second straight victory.

The win lifted Oakwood to 8-14 overall, while UVI fell to 2-12.

Jason Griffin led four Ambassadors in double figures with 24 points and six rebounds. He finished 7-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range, and 8-of-12 from the free throw line.

Joshua Barnett finished with 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Chase Jackson had 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Jordan Hill scored 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including a 3-pointer.

Oakwood shot 44.1 percent (30-of-68) from the field, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from 3-point range, and 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the charity stripe.

Khari Person, who spent the last two years at Oakwood, led UVI with 22 points. Sebastian Dokum scored 19 points, while Chad Molloy added 11.

The Buccaneers shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field, including 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from beyond the arc, and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the free throw line.

Oakwood is at Dillard tonight.
