OAKWOOD COMES UP SHORT IN NARROW LOSS TO RUST IN HBCUAC ACTION

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University, down by 14 points at intermission, battled back Thursday night against Rust College, but couldn't complete the comeback as the Bearcats emerged with a 61-60 victory inside Ashby Auditorium in an HBCU Athletic Conference game.

The Ambassadors, playing without leading scorer Jordan Bell for the second game in a row due to personal reasons, trailed 38-24 at halftime. However, Oakwood outscored the Bearcats 36-23 in the second half to make a game of it. Unfortunately, Simon Jacob's team came up just short after Jordan Green missed a free throw with no time left that could have forced overtime.

The loss, Oakwood's second straight, dropped the Ambassadors to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in league play. Rust improved to 5-11 and 2-3.

Jordan Hill and Green led Oakwood with 10 points each.

The Ambassadors shot 29.4 percent (20-of-68) from the field, including 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from 3-point range, and 63 percent (17-of-27) from the free throw line.

Akeives Shorts and Chaunterion Ward led Rust with 12 points apiece.

The Bearcats shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field, including 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from beyond the arc, and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood hosts Talladega College at 7:30 on January 15.
