OAKWOOD STARTS SLOW IN LOSS TO TOUGALOO

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University men's basketball had played well going into the Christmas break.

After a 1-6 start, Simon Jacob's team had split their last six games, including a solid win over Fisk University to end the year.

Unfortunately, the Ambassadors solid play didn't carry over into the new year.

Oakwood came out flat Saturday night and never recovered as Tougaloo scored early and often enroute to an 88-64 win in a non-conference game inside Ashby Auditorium.

The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 4-10 overall. Tougaloo improved to 6-6 with its fifth straight win.

Jordan Hill led Oakwood with 18 points. He was 6-of-13 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Hill also grabbed four rebounds.

Damon Fann backed Hill with 14 points.

Oakwood played without leading scorer Jordan Bell, who was out due to personal reasons.

Antonio Patterson led five Tougaloo players in double figures with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Ealey and Tyler Hudson had 16 points apiece.

The Bulldogs shot 50 percent (31-of-61) from the field, including 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point range, and 70 percent (21-of-30) from the charity stripe.

Tougaloo outscored Oakwood 46-20 in the paint and outrebounded the Ambassadors 51-30.
