OAKWOOD USES BIG THIRD PERIOD TO BLOW PAST TALLADEGA FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University used a big third period Thursday night and went on to beat Talladega College 72-56 in an HBCU Athletic Conference women's basketball game inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors trailed 36-34 at intermission, but outscored the Tornadoes 22-8 in the third period to take a commanding lead and cruised to their fifth straight victory.

The win lifted Oakwood to 10-5 overall and 6-0 in league play. Talladega fell to 9-3 and 3-3.

Trenisha Adams led the Ambassadors with a game-high 22 points.

She was 6-of-13 from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range. Adams also had four assists and five steals.

Kamaria Murray backed Adams with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including two 3-pointers. She also had four rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Oakwood shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) from the field, including 36 percent (9-of-25) from beyond the arc, and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the free throw line.

Ceara Myers led three Tornadoes in double figures with 14 points. Courtney Lowe and Olympia Chaney finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Talladega shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the field, including 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from 3-point range, and 50 percent (7-of-14) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will host Voorhees University Saturday at 6 p.m.
