OFFENSE, PITCHING WOES HURT OAKWOOD AGAINST STILLMAN

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University couldn't get untracked offensively, managing just four runs and 11 hits, as Stillman College came away with a pair of wins Friday at University Field.

The Tigers downed the Ambassadors 8-3 and 11-1 in an HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Oakwood fell to 7-21 overall and 5-7 in league play,

Game 1

The Ambassadors fell behind 8-0 midway through the fifth inning before getting on the scoreboard.

Jordan Howard hit a 3-run homer to pull Oakwood within 8-3. Unfortunately, they couldn't muster any runs in the last two innings enroute to losing the opener.

Howard was 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored a run. In addition to her home run, Howard also had a double.

Jaala Hawkins was 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Toni Sims and Sydney Arnett had one hit each. Sara Tate also scored a run.

Arnett (6-9) took the loss, allowing eight runs, all earned, on 11 hits in seven innings. She walked two and struck out nine.

Game 2

The Tigers scored early and often in sweeping the Ambassadors.

Stillman led 8-0 midway through the fifth inning and tacked on three more in the sixth.

Katie Johnson was 2-for-3 and had an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning to account for Oakwood's lone run.

Toni Sims, Anna Jones and Arnett had one hit each.

Ashlyn Hallman (0-5) took the loss, allowing 11 runs, all earned, on 17 hits in six innings. She walked three and struck out five.
