TALLADEGA COLLEGE SWEEPS OAKWOOD SOFTBALL

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jalaa Hawkins and Jordan Howard had two hits apiece, but it wasn't enough as Talladega College swept Oakwood University 2-1 and 8-6 Thursday afternoon at University Field in a non-conference softball doubleheader.

The Ambassadors fell to 7-24 on the season.

Game 1

Oakwood managed only two hits in the opener, but despite that, had a chance to extend the game into extra innings.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jana Morrow singled to score Anna Jones to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, Mary McCluskey struck out with Careen Whitehead on second base to end the game.

Howard and Morrow had Oakwood's lone hits in the opener.

Sydney Arnett (6-9) took the loss, allowing two runs, both earned, on seven hits in seven innings. She struck out two.

Game 2

The Ambassadors erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make a game of it, but the Tornadoes pushed a run across in the top of the sixth and emerged with an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.

Talladega College led 7-1 midway through the fifth inning before Oakwood rallied to pull within 7-6, but the Ambassadors couldn't get any closer.

Hawkins went 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored two runs. Howard had a hit and two RBI and Katie Johnson had a hit, an RBI and scored a run.

Sara Tate, Arnett and McCluskey had a hit and scored  a run each. Anna Jones also had a hit.

Whitehead (0-3) took the loss, allowing three runs, all earned, on six hits in three innings. She walked two.
