OAKWOOD PLACES THREE PLAYERS ON THE ALL-HBCUAC PRESEASON SOFTBALL TEAM

ARNETT NAMED PRESEASON PITCHER OF THE YEAR...AMBASSADORS PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL

NEW ORLEANS – Oakwood University placed three players on the All-HBCU Athletic Conference Preseason Softball Team, including Preseason Pitcher of the Year Sydney Arnett, league officials announced Friday.

Arnett, a senior from Andalusia, won seven games last season, which ranked fifth in the Continental Athletic Conference. She was second with 133 strikeouts in 132 innings, while posting a 3.61 earned-run average. Arnett also plays first base and is the Ambassadors' cleanup hitter.

Oakwood's other first-team selections include outfielder Katie Johnson and designated player Jana Morrow.

Johnson, a senior from Brookwood, hit .337 in 83 at-bats a year ago. She scored 18 runs, drove in 11 and was seventh in the CAC with 13 stolen bases.

Morrow, a senior from Moody, hit .380 in 79 at-bats last season. She scored 17 runs, drove in 14 and was seventh in the CAC with three home runs.

Stillman College was picked to win the HBCUAC title, finishing with 36 points and all six first-place votes.

Oakwood was picked to finish second with 26 points, followed by Talladega College (24), Dillard University (22), Rust College (10) and Voorhees University (9).

The 2025 HBCUAC Softball Championship is April 23-25 in Danville, Alabama.
