SMITH SHINES IN OAKWOOD'S SEASON OPENER

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – MacKenzie Smith went 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University fell to Faulkner University 3-0 and 8-2 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader at Wynn Field.

Game 1

Smith, a junior college transfer from Chattahoochee Valley, was one of three Ambassadors to get a hit in the opener.
She was 1-for-3 with a double, while Jana Morrow and Kaley Fuller had one hit apiece.

Sydney Arnett (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs, none earned, on six hits in six innings. She struck out five.

Oakwood committed three errors that led to the three unearned runs.

Game 2

Smith was 2-for-3 in the nightcap with an RBI.

Katie Johnson and Jalaa Hawkins had one hit apiece and scored a run each.

Oakwood pushed across a run in the top of the first inning, but Faulkner rallied with two in the bottom of the inning, three in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to win convincingly.

Careen Whitehead (0-1) took the loss for the Ambassadors. She allowed seven runs, all earned on nine hits in four innings.
