BELL SHINES, BUT TREVECCA TOO MUCH FOR OAKWOOD

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jordan Bell scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but Trevecca Nazarene scored early and often and went on to beat Oakwood University 99-66 Wednesday afternoon at Trojan Fieldhouse.
 
The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 1-5 on the season. The Trojans, an NCAA Division II program in the Gulf South Conference, improved to 2-1.
 
Bell was 10-of-20 from the field, had three assists, two steals and a block.
 
Joshua Barnett finished with 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range. He also had two assists.
 
Oakwood shot 36.7 percent (29-of-79) from the field, including 9.1 percent (2-of-22) from 3-point range, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the free throw line.
 
Da'Shon Fisher led Trevecca with 20 points. Brett Wright and Fred Bailey finished with 14 points each. Latham Binkley and Jax Abernathy scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
The Trojans shot 45.9 percent (34-of-74) from the field, including 38.5 percent (15-of-39) from beyond the arc, and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the charity stripe.
 
Trevecca outscored Oakwood 45-6 from 3-point range, 49-25 in bench points and 26-14 in fast break points.
 
Oakwood is back in action tonight at Talladega College in its HBCU Athletic Conference opener.
 
The doubleheader starts at 5 with the women's game, followed by the men's game at 7.
