Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

GREEN, ALEXANDER COME UP BIG TO HELP OAKWOOD SNAP 16-GAME LOSING STREAK

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University was in danger of losing its 17th straight game Thursday night, but Jordan Green and Jamarkus Alexander refused to let the Ambassadors fall.

Green and Alexander combined for 34 points in the second half and Alexander's jumper with 18 seconds left lifted Oakwood to a thrilling come-from-behind 73-71 HBCU Athletic Conference victory over Wilberforce University inside Ashby Auditorium.

The win helped the Ambassadors snap their 16-game losing streak as they improved to 2-18 overall and 1-11 in league play. It was Oakwood's first win since beating Washington Adventist back on Nov. 2.

The Bulldogs, who have now lost eight straight games, fell to 7-11 and 5-7.

Wilberforce held a 36-30 lead at intermission and led 44-32 after Jesse Overson Jr scored with just over 17 minutes left in the game.

That's when Green and Alexander got it going.

Green's 3-pointer, one of three he had on the night, with just over seven minutes remaining tied the game at 59-all. Green hit two free throws at the 2:53 mark to give the Ambassadors a 65-64 advantage. It was their first lead since 20-18 with just over five minutes left in the first half.

After a series of lead changes, Green hit two free throws to put Oakwood up 71-68 with a minute left, but Cali Davis drained a 3-pointer five seconds later to tie the game at 71-all.

Fortunately, Alexander's jumper with 18 seconds left gave the Ambassadors a 73-71 advantage and Davis missed two free throws with four seconds remaining as Oakwood hung on to snap its long losing streak.

Green finished with 28 points, including 22 in the second half. He was 10-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Green was 7-of-8 in the second half, 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Jordan Bell had 17 points and seven rebounds. He was 8-of-14 from the field with two assists, two steals and a block.

Alexander had 10 of his 12 points in the second half, including the game-winning jumper. He also had six rebounds, six assists, five steals and a block.

The Ambassadors shot 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field, including 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from 3-point range, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the free throw line.

Davis led five Wilberforce players in double figures with 16 points.

Germainn Marshall finished with 15, Overson Jr 13, Preston Steele 12 and Josiah Mobley 11.

The Bulldogs shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field, including 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 73.3 percent (22-of-30) from the charity strike.
