TENNESSEE SOUTHERN OUTLASTS OAKWOOD DESPITE FOUR PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jordan Bell posted a double-double and three other players finished in double figures Saturday night, but it wasn't enough as Tennessee Southern outlasted Oakwood University 83-74 inside Ashby Auditorium in a non-conference game.

The Ambassadors fell to 1-18 with the loss, while the FIrehawks improved to 7-10.

Oakwood battled back from an early 14-point deficit in the first half and trailed just 41-39 at intermission. The game stayed close for much of the second half before the Firehawks pulled away down the stretch.

Jamarkus Alexander led the Ambassadors with 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-13 from 3-point range, and made both of his free throws. He also had four assists, four steals and one rebound.

Bell finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist.

Damon Fann had 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. He also had one rebound and one steal.

Steven Aroh had 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and made both of his free throws. He also had one assist.

Oakwood shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the field, including 50 percent (13-of-26) from beyond the arc, and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line.

Zaiden Cross led four Tennessee Southern players in double figures with 24 points. 

Vito Vujovic finished with 15 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks.

Mike Bell, Jr. and Mark Vance finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Firehawks shot 51.7 percent (31-of-60) from the field, including 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from 3-point range, and 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the charity stripe.

Tennessee Southern won the game by outscoring Oakwood 40-16 in points in the paint and 24-8 in second chance points.

Oakwood is back in action Thursday when it hosts Wilberforce University in a key HBCUAC game.
