PROPHETE, MITCHELL, DIAZ NAMED DAKTRONICS NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics recently announced its winter sports Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and Oakwood University had three student-athletes among the prestigious honorees.
 
Senior forward Judelin Prophete, sophomore guard Julius Mitchell and senior guard Mari Dortch Diaz were honored.
 
This is the second year in a row Prophete was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Prophete led the Ambassadors in minutes (31.6), scoring (12.5), rebounding (7.4), assists (47), steals (26) and blocks (70).
 
Mitchell averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds, handed out 20 assists, had 11 steals and two blocks.
 
Diaz appeared in 14 games and helped the Lady Ambassadors reach 10 wins for the first time in school history.
 
The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference had seven student-athletes honored.
 
Along with Prophete, Mitchell and Diaz, Tougaloo College was represented by Trinity Taylor, Morgan Williams and Kevin Byrd, while Elizabeth Camacho represented Wiley College.
 
All total, 1,459 student-athletes were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes in winter sports.
 
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum graded point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.
 
The NAIA separates the honorees by sport.
