HAMM, GRIGORIUS COME UP BIG FOR OAKWOOD, BUT AMBASSADORS' SEASON COMES TO END

JACKSON, Miss. – Mateo Hamm hit two home runs and Dylan Grigorius hit another one to help Oakwood University rally back from an early 4-0 deficit, but Tougaloo College scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and hung on to eliminate the Ambassadors from the GCAC 2024 Hope Credit Union Baseball Championship Thursday afternoon with a 10-8 victory at Smith-Wills Stadium.
 
Oakwood finished the season 2-35, while Tougaloo improved to 13-34.
 
Hamm was 3-for-3 with a pair of homers, giving him four on the season, scored two runs and had three RBI, while Grigorius was 2-for-5 with a homer, his fifth of the year, scored a run and had one RBI.
 
Jeremy Matos was 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Chris Aguilar was 2-for-5 and scored a run.
 
Jaylen Fairris had a hit, an RBI and scored a run, while Anthony Brent Jr also had a hit.
 
Hamm's solo homer with one out in the fourth pulled Oakwood within 4-1. His two-run shot, part of a six-run sixth inning, pulled the Ambassadors within 4-3.
 
Grigorius' solo shot tied the game at 4-4 and Oakwood pushed across two more runs in the inning to take a 7-4 lead.
 
Unfortunately, the Ambassadors couldn't hang on.
 
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within 7-6 and then added three more in the bottom of the seven to go up 9-7 and hung on for the victory.
 
Dakota Cobb (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits in five innings. He walked seven and struck out four.
