OAKWOOD COMES UP SHORT AGAINST RUST COLLEGE IN MOST SPIRITED EFFORT OF THE SEASON

 
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University, playing without arguably its two best players in seniors Judelin Prophete and Brian Williams, gave Rust College all it could handle
Wednesday night inside Ashby Auditorium.
 
In one of their more spirited efforts of the season, the Ambassadors got contributions from a number of players and battled all the way until the end, but the Bearcats emerged with an 88-80 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory.
 
Oakwood fell to 1-25 overall and 1-16 in league play. Rust improved to 1-14 and 7-10.
 
The Ambassadors led 37-35 at intermission and the game was tied at 61-all with just over 11 minutes left, but Rust outscored Oakwood 27-19 the rest of the way to secure the victory.
 
Jeray Randall Jr. led five Oakwood players in double figures with 17 points.  He was 5-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, 2-of-2 from the free throw line and had one assist.
 
Steve Aroh finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists. He was 5-of-12 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and made all four of his free throws.
Amyr Dickerson scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 from deep, and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. He also had five rebounds and two assists.
 
Justin Edwards scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, two rebounds and two assists.
 
Jaywill Thornton had 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, four rebounds and two assists.
 
Oakwood shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field, including 45.2 percent (14-of-31) from deep, and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the free throw line.
 
Xavier Evans led three Rust players in double figures with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Christopher Hood finished with 25 and seven rebounds, while Catthadious Moore had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Bearcats shot 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the field, including 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from 3-point range, and 68.6 percent (24-of-35) from the charity stripe.
 
Rust enjoyed a big advantage at the free throw line, converting 24-of-35, while Oakwood was only 10-of-13.
 
Oakwood will host Tougaloo College Saturday night at 8.
