PROPHETE PLAYS STRONG, BUT TOUGALOO SPOILS SENIOR NIGHT

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Judelin Prophete was determined to go out a winner on Senior Night.

A native of Miami, Fla., Prophete certainly played that way Saturday night.

Prophete scored 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked five shots, but it wasn't enough as Tougaloo College outlasted Oakwood University 81-70 in his last home game inside Ashby Auditorium.

"I gave it my all," said Prophete, who played all 40 minutes and shot 8-of-13 from the field to go along with three assists. "I left it all on the court."

The loss dropped Oakwood to 1-26 overall and 1-17 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Tougaloo improved to 23-5 and 15-3.

The Bulldogs raced out to a commanding 33-13 lead with just over eight minutes left in the first half, but the Ambassadors battled back, using a 28-13 run to pull within 46-41 at intermission on a 3-pointer by Amyr Dickerson.

Steve Aroh's 3-pointer seconds into the second half pulled Oakwood within 46-44, but while Oakwood stayed within striking distance, Prophete and his teammates couldn't get any closer.

"We battled the whole way," Prophete said. "We didn't quit."

Jeray Randall Jr. backed Prophete with 17 points. He was 6-of-8 from the field, made all five of his 3-point attempts, had one rebound, one assist and three steals.

Oakwood shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the field, including 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from 3-point range, and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the free throw line.

Keondre Montgomery led three Tougaloo players in double figures with 24 points. Andre Brunt finished with 13 points, while Antonio Patterson had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Oakwood will find out today who it will play Wednesday in the GCAC Tournament in Tuscaloosa.
