PROPHETE, OAKWOOD COME UP SHORT AGAINST SUNO

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Judelin Prophete had one of his best all-around games of the season, but it wasn't enough as Southern University of New Orleans handed Oakwood its 11th straight loss in a 91-78 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory Thursday night at The Castle.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 1-22 overall and 1-13 in league play. SUNO improved to 7-20 and 7-9.

Prophete finished with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks.

Nicholas Kennard scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including three 3-pointers, and Jaywill Thornton chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Oakwood shot 42.5 percent (31-of-73) from the field, including 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point range, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the free throw line.

Jamal Gibson, the Knights' freshman phenom, paced four players in double figures, finishing with 27 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks.

Jeremiah Maldonado, Taj Gilyot and Caleb Williams scored 15, 14 and 12 points, respectively.

SUNO shot 51.5 percent (35-of-68) from the field, including 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from deep, and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood remains in New Orleans Saturday night to take on Dillard University at 8.
