OAKWOOD HOSTS UVI IN CRITICAL GCAC GAME

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University will try to climb out of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference cellar tonight when the University of the Virgin Islands invades Ashby Auditorium in a critical game. Tipoff is set for 8:30.
 
The Ambassadors, currently in last place, enter the contest 1-19 overall and 1-10 in league play. Oakwood, which has lost five games by six points or less, is currently in the middle of an eight-game losing streak.
 
The Buccaneers, currently in ninth place, are 4-14 and 2-10. UVI beat Oakwood 76-68 at home back on Jan. 6 and downed Philander Smith for its other GCAC victory. UVI is 0-8 on the road this season.
 
Oakwood is led by forward Judelin Prophete and shooting guard Nicholas Kennard.
Prophete leads the Ambassadors in scoring (11.3), rebounding (7.1), assists (29) and blocks (56). Kennard is averaging 9.8 points per game. Kennard has a team-high 35 3-pointers and is shooting a team-high 37.2 percent from beyond the arc.
 
UVI will counter with Maurice Smith Jr., Jalil Langston, William Steger and Naythan
Shaw-Clarke.
 
Smith Jr. is averaging 14.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Langston, Steger and Shaw-Clarke are averaging 14.4, 11.3 and 10.9 points, respectively.
