OAKWOOD CAN'T OVERCOME BIG RUN IN LOSS TO TOUGALOO IN HBCUAC CROSSOVER

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Oakwood University had four players in double figures, but the Ambassadors allowed Tougaloo College to use a big run early in the second half to take a commanding lead and went on to an 84-69 victory in the HBCUAC Crossover at Dillard University's Dent Hall Monday afternoon.

The Ambassadors trailed just 47-45 with just under 15 minutes left in the second half after a basket by Steven Aroh, but the Bulldogs used a 27-11 run over the next nine minutes to take a 74-56 advantage and the outcome was never in doubt.

Oakwood fell to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in league play. Tougaloo improved to 8-4 and 4-1.

Jordan Bell led four Ambassadors in double figures with 18 points and six rebounds. He also had two steals, one assist and one block.

Aroh finished with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting and made four of his free throw attempts. He also had two rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Jaywill Thornton had 11 points, three rebounds and one assist, while Chase Jackson had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Oakwood shot 37.9 percent (25-of-66) from the field, including 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from 3-point range, and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free throw line.

Antonio Patterson led four Tougaloo players in double figures with 18 points. Willie Anderson finished with 16 points, while Jordan Ealey and Andre' Brunt scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs shot 60 percent (33-of-55) from the field, including 41.7 percent (5-of-12 from beyond the arc, and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood is off until Jan. 3 when it takes on Philander Smith in the Talladega HBCUAC Pod.
