OAKWOOD STRUGGLES IN OVERTIME AND FALLS TO DILLARD IN HBCUAC CROSSOVER

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Oakwood University gave West Division leader Dillard University all it wanted Friday afternoon, but in the end, the Ambassadors struggled in overtime as the Bleu Devils came away with an 83-76 victory in the HBCUAC Crossover.

The game was tied at 31-all at halftime and Oakwood led 48-44 going into the fourth period. The Blue Devils outscored the Ambassadors 29-25 in the fourth to send the game into overtime and Dillard then dominated the extra period, outscoring Oakwood 10-3 to take the win.

The Ambassadors managed just three free throws in overtime and were 0-of-8 from the field.

"We had some good looks," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said. "We just couldn't buy a basket."

The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Bleu Devils improved to 6-3 and 3-0.

Trenisha Adams led Oakwood with a season-high 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. She was 6-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line in 44 minutes.

Saniya Keys finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She was 8-of-10 from the field and had a steal.

Morgan Bone had 17 points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist. She was 6-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Oakwood shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field, including 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from 3-point range, and 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the free throw line.

Skyler Christmas led four Dillard players in double figures with 28 points off the bench. She was 9-of-14 from the field, including 7-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

Cassidy Lowe finished with 20 points, while Alexis Gie and Wynter Taylor scored 16 and 11, respectively.

The Bleu Devils shot 43.3 percent (29-of-67) from the field, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will stay in New Orleans and take on Southern University today at 6 p.m.
