OAKWOOD PLACES 10 STUDENT ATHLETES ON 2024 DAKTRONICS SCHOLAR-ATHLETES LIST

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oakwood University had 10 student-athletes named 2024 Daktronics Scholar-Athletes for fall sports, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Monday.

This honor recognizes student-athletes in each of the fall sports who have excelled academically, including football, men's cross country, men's soccer, women's cross country, women's soccer and women's volleyball.

Oakwood's volleyball team had five representatives, including Dorian Birch (Health Science/Pre-Physical Therapy, Cameryn Bucknor (Health Science/Pre-Physical Therapy), Anna Jones (English), Mona Okello (Health & Human Sciences) and Miriangie Rondon (Nursing).

The Ambassadors' women's soccer team had four representatives, including Xe'azjah Paynter (Health Science/Pre-Physical Therapy), Kristina Phillips (Health Science), Nicevarlyn Philippe (Biology/Pre-Med) and Amarlin Sosa Puello (Computer Science).

Oakwood's men's soccer team was represented by Juan Arbelaez (Biology/Biomedical Engineering).

To qualify as a Daktronic NAIA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have attended their institution for at least one full year.

Women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's soccer had over 1,000 Daktronics Scholar-Athletes named with 1,328, 1,105 and 1,043 scholar-athletes, respectively.
