OAKWOOD WELCOMES FISK TO TOWN FOR HBCUAC DOUBLEHEADER

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University will host Fisk University in its HBCU Athletic Conference opener this afternoon inside Ashby Auditorium.

The women's game will start at 5, followed by the men's game.

Women's Preview 

The Ambassadors enter today's contest 1-2, having lost at Tennessee Southern before splitting a pair of home games against Washington Adventist and Faulkner University.

Oakwood has been led by freshman sensation Saniya Keys and junior guard Trenisha Adams.

Keys is averaging 24.7 points and 15.7 rebounds while shooting almost 52 percent from the field. Meanwhile, Adams, one of the league's better 3-point shooters, has struggled shooting the ball this season. Despite that, she is averaging nine points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and has eight steals.

Fisk will counter with Jayla Bibbs and Keeli Burton-Oliver.

Bibbs is averaging 13.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, while Burton-Oliver is averaging 13 points, four rebounds and has five blocks on the season.

Men's Preview

Oakwood is 1-4 through its first five games and is currently in the midst of a two-game losing streak.

The Ambassadors opened the season with back-to-back losses to defending NAIA national champion Freed-Hardeman and Tennessee Southern before beating Washington Adventist at home.

Since then, Simon Jacob's team has lost at Dalton State and at home to Faulkner last Saturday night.

Oakwood has been led by Jeray Randall and Jordan Bell so far this season.

Randall, a sophomore guard from Climax, Ga., is averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He has a team-high 14 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Bell, a senior forward from Mobile, is averaging 10 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Fisk is 2-3 after a 103-69 loss at Alabama A&M Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs has been led by Doyel Cockrill III and Michael Ashley through the early part of the season.

Cockrill III, a transfer from Cumberland University, is averaging a team-high 18.8 points per game. He has been the HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week multiple times this season. Ashley has been a force inside for Fisk, averaging 12.8 and 10.8 rebounds.
