BADGETT SHINES IN EXHIBITION LOSS TO SHORTER

ROME, Ga. – Carson Badgett scored a game-high 17 points, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University fell 87-67 to Shorter University Monday night in an exhibition game inside the Winthrop-King Centre.

Badgett, a 6-foot-4 sophomore forward from Nashville, had his best game of the young season, finishing 7-of-9 from the field and making all three of his free throws.

Nicholas Kennard backed Badgett with 10 points.

The Ambassadors shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field, including 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from 3-point range, and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line.

Ja'Myas Davis led five Shorter players in double figures with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Jabiri Smith finished with 13 points, while Donovan Shangase, Chris Bibbs and Jaiden Wynn added 12 each.

The Hawks shot 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the field, including 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood opens HBCU Athletic Conference play at home Thursday against Fisk University. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
