FAULKNER HOLDS OFF OAKWOOD DESPITE GRITTY EFFORT

Huntsville, Ala. – Oakwood University gave Faulkner University all it could handle for 34 minutes Saturday night, but the Eagles hung on down the stretch and outlasted the Ambassadors 65-57 in a non-conference game inside Ashby Auditorium.

Oakwood fell to 1-4 with the loss. Faulkner improved to 4-0.

Jeray Randle's jumper with just under 12 minutes left gave the Ambassadors a 43-41 lead. After the Eagles regained the lead, Jordan Bell's jumper gave Oakwood its last lead of the game at 45-44 with 10:41 remaining.

Maliek Sadler made back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Eagles a 50-45 advantage with just under eight minutes to play, but the Ambassadors refused to fold.

Randle's 3-pointer and a free throw by Bell pulled Oakwood within 50-49 with just over six minutes left, but Faulkner outscored the Ambassadors 15-8 the rest of the way to hold on for the win.

Jaywill Thornton led Oakwood with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He also had six rebounds.

Bell finished with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting and seven rebounds. Chase Jackson scored 12 points and had four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Ambassadors shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the field, including 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point range, and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from the free throw line.

Sadler finished with a game-high 21 points to lead Faulkner. He was 6-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, and made all four of his free throws. He was the only Eagle in double figures.

Faulkner shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field, including 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood is back in action Monday night at Shorter University in Rome, Ga. Tipoff is set for 6:30.
