FANN COMES UP BIG, BUT OAKWOOD FALLS SHORT IN LOSS TO TENNESSEE SOUTHERN

Pulaski, Tenn. – Damon Fann had his coming out party Tuesday night, finishing with 22 points, but it wasn't enough as Tennessee Southern downed Oakwood University 77-63 inside the Curry Athletic Complex in a non-conference game.
 
Fann, a junior shooting guard from Murfreesboro, Tenn., was 8-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range. He also had two assists and one steal in 31 minutes.
 
Senior Jaywill Thornton backed Fann with 11 points.
 
The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 0-2 on the season. The Firehawks improved to 1-0.
 
Oakwood trailed 30-23 at intermission, but despite making a run in the second half, came up short as Tennessee Southern outscored the Ambassadors 47-40 in the final 20 minutes.
 
Oakwood shot 33.3 percent (22-of-66) from the field, including 32.1 percent (9-of-28) from 3-point range, and 50 percent (10-of-20) from the free throw line.
 
Vito Vujovic led four Firehawks in double figures with 21 points. Mike Bell finished with 19, while Mark Vance and Eric Robinson scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Tennessee Southern shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the field, including 30 percent (6-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood will host Washington Adventist in its home opener Saturday. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
