OAKWOOD COMES UP SHORT IN ROAD LOSS AT WILEY

MARSHALL, TX. – Oakwood University was in position to snap its five-game losing streak Saturday night.

Judelin Prophete's layup with just over five minutes left gave the Ambassadors a 62-61 lead over Wiley College. Oakwood had a chance to sweep the season series against the Wildcats.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be.

Wiley used an 8-0 run over the next three-plus minutes to go up 69-62 and went to hand Oakwood its sixth straight loss, a 73-68 setback inside Alumni Gymnasium in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game.

The Ambassadors fell to 1-17 overall and 1-9 in league play. The Wildcats improved to 10-10 and 6-6.

Nicholas Kennard led Oakwood with a team-high 15 points. He was 4-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and made all four of his free throws. Kennard also had two assists, one rebound and one steal.

Prophete finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. He was 5-of-7 from the field and made all four of his free throws.

Oakwood shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the field, including 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line.

The Ambassadors' undoing was rebounding and turnovers.

Oakwood was outrebounded 46-33 and gave up 23 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second-chance points for Wiley. Also, the Ambassadors turned the ball over 13 times and the Wildcats scored 24 points off those turnovers.

Delor Johnson led Wiley with 31 points, while Tayvion Fisher finished with 18.

The Wildcats shot 36.1 percent (26-of-72) from the field, including 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from deep, and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the charity stripe.
