OAKWOOD WOMEN'S SOCCER BATTLES HARD, COMES UP SHORT IN SEASON OPENER

Oakwood University women's soccer went toe-to-toe with Wesleyan College for 33 minutes Sunday afternoon, but in the end, the Ambassadors came up short, falling 6-2 in its season opener.

Oakwood fell to 0-1 with the loss. Wesleyan improved to 1-3.

Wesleyan grabbed a 2-0 lead 15 minutes into the game, but Oakwood answered when Nicevvaryn Philipe scored in the 16th minute and Jynre McEachin scored in the 33rd minute to tie the game at 2-2.

Unfortunately, the Wolves scored four consecutive goals over a seven-minute span to take a 6-2 lead at intermission and the outcome was never in doubt.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Wesleyan had 10 shots on goal, while Oakwood finished with six.

Oakwood goalkeeper Amerlin Sosa finished with seven saves, while Wesleyan goalkeeper Crystal Francis had three.

Oakwood is back in action Friday at the University of Mississippi for Women.
