HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Oakwood University, still in search of its first win in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, trailed Rust College 6-3 midway through the third inning Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately, the Bearcats broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to a 21-3 victory to sweep the three-game series.
Oakwood fell to 0-15 overall and 0-9 in league play. Rust improved to 13-13 and 7-2.
Jorge Hernandez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) led the Ambassadors, going 2-for-4 while also scoring a run.
Jayden Rolling (Atlanta, GA),
Dylan Grigorius (San Nicholas, Aruba) and
Edwin Martinez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) also had one hit apiece.
Jeremy Matos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) walked twice and scored a run, while
Erick Perez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) also walked and scored a run.
Akari David (Tallahassee, FL) had an RBI.
Framber Rodriguez (San Isidro, Dominican Republic) took the loss. He allowed 19 runs, including 15 earned, on 12 hits in five innings. Rodriguez walked seven and struck out four.
Oakwood visits Tennessee Southern today. The doubleheader is slated to start at 3.
