Jorge Hernandez and
Dylan Grigorius had three hits each, but it wasn't enough to get Oakwood University in the win column as Rust College beat the Ambassadors 8-1, 19-0 and 20-6 over the weekend in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series.
Oakwood fell to 0-25 overall and 0-17 in league play.
First Game
Hernandez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) went 2-for-3 and
Jeremy Matos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), Grigorius (San Nicolas, Aruba),
Jordan Jennings (Greenville, MS),
Edwin Martinez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and
Erick Perez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) all recorded one hit each.
The Ambassadors scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI-single by Jennings to tie the game at 1-all, but the Bearcats scored three runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to win going away.
Grigorius took the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits, including five earned, in 5.2 innings of work. He walked nine and struck out four.
Second Game
The Bearcats erupted for 12 runs in the first inning and never looked back in blowing out the Ambassadors.
Matos, Grigorius, Perez and
Akari David recorded hits in the game.
David (Tallahassee, FL) took the loss, allowing 11 runs, all earned, on three hits in 0.2 innings of work. He walked six and failed to strike out a batter.
Third Game
Obed Herrera (Pinar del Rio, Cuba) had two hits and scored a run, while Grigorius had a hit and three RBI and Hernandez had a hit and two RBI.
Jayden Rolling (Atlanta GA) also had a hit and scored a run.
The Ambassadors trailed 7-0 through two innings, but scored three in the bottom of the third to pull within 7-3, but the Bearcats scored three in the fourth and four more in the fifth to pull away.
Matos took the loss, allowing 14 runs, including 11 earned, on eight hits. He walked three and struck out one.
