Akari David had two hits apiece, but it wasn't enough as Wiley College downed Oakwood University 25-0 Thursday afternoon in the 2023 Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship at the Hank Aaron Sports Academy Smith-Wills Stadium.
The Wildcats improved to 21-18 with the win. The Ambassadors fell to 0-26. Oakwood will try to keep its season alive today when it takes on the Rust College/Tougaloo College loser at 3 p.m.
Wiley College scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the third to take an early 9-0 lead and never looked back in beating Oakwood for the fourth time in as many games this season.
Perez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and David (Tallahassee, FL) went 2-for-3, while Hernandez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) went 2-for-4. Dimarcos Pereira (Keene, TX),
Jordan Jennings (Greenville, MS) and
Jayden Rolling (Atlanta, GA) all went 1-for-3.
Dylan Grigorius (San Nicolas, Aruba) took the loss. He allowed 15 runs, 14 earned, on 13 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Grigorius walked five and struck out three.
