NEW ORLEANS, La. –
Jorge Hernandez continued his hot play with three hits and
Dylan Grigorius and
Jeremy Matos had one each, but it wasn't enough as Oakwood University fell 29-2 and 24-0 to Dillard University Sunday afternoon in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
The Ambassadors fell to 0-19 overall and 0-13 in league play. The Bleu Devils improved to 14-27 and 10-4.
First Game
Hernandez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), who has been Oakwood's best player this season, went 2-for-2 in the opener with two RBI and a stolen base.
Jeremy Matos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) reached on an error with one out in the first inning and advanced all the way to third. One out later, Hernandez doubled to drive in Matos to give the Ambassadors an early 1-0 lead.
Matos reached on an error in the third inning and later scored on a run-scoring single by Hernandez to account for both of Oakwood's runs in the opener.
Grigorius (San Nicolas, Aruba) had a single to account for Oakwood's other hit.
Akari David (Tallahassee, FL) took the loss, allowing 25 runs, including 19 earned, on nine hits in two innings of work. He walked 14 and struck out two.
Second Game
Hernandez and Matos each had a hit in the nightcap.
Framber Rodriguez (San Isidro, Dominican Republic) took the loss, allowing 19 runs, including 15 earned, on 10 hits in two innings of work. He walked 10 and failed to record a strike out.
Oakwood and Dillard will complete its three-game series today at 3.
