HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. –
Jeremy Matos and
Dylan Grigorius had three hits apiece and
Obed Herrera had two, but it wasn't enough as Rust College swept a doubleheader from Oakwood University Thursday afternoon.
The Bearcats downed the Ambassadors 13-3 and 17-0 in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series.
Oakwood fell to 0-14 overall and 0-8 in league play. Rust improved to 11-15 and 6-2.
Game One
Matos (Santo Domingo, Dominican, Republic) went 2-for-3 and scored a run in the opener. Grigorius (San Nicolas, Aruba), and Herrera (Pinar Del Rio, Cuba) had one hit apiece. Herrera had an RBI and scored a run, while
Erick Perez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) also had an RBI.
Jorge Hernandez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) walked and scored a run.
Grigorius suffered the loss. He allowed 13 runs, 11 earned, on nine hits in four innings. He walked five and struck out one.
Game Two
Grigorius had two hits, while Matos, Herrera and
Jayden Rolling (Atlanta, GA) had one apiece.
Akari David (Tallahassee, FL) took the loss, allowing 15 runs on 17 hits in three innings. He walked three and struck out four.
The teams will complete the three-game series Sunday.
