Jorge Hernandez had a couple of hits and three other players also had hits, but it wasn't enough as Tennessee Southern downed Oakwood University 17-0 and 16-0 Wednesday in a doubleheader at John Hunt Park.
The Ambassadors fell to 0-6 on the season. The FIrehawks improved to 16-6.
Hernandez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), who starts in center field for Oakwood, went 2-for-4 on the day, while
Obed Herrera (Cuba),
Jayden Rolling (Atlanta, GA) and
Jeremy Matos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) also had hits on the day.
The Ambassadors trailed only 2-0 after the first inning in the opener, but the Firehawks scored nine runs in the second inning to break it open.
Akari David (Tallahassee, FL) fell to 0-2 with the loss. He gave up 17 runs, including 14 earned, on 12 hits in five innings of work. He walked nine and struck out five.
Oakwood was down 6-0 after three innings in the nightcap, before Tennessee Southern erupted for 10 runs on the next two innings to win going away.
Dylan Grigorius (San Nicolas, Aruba) dropped to 0-2 with the loss. He allowed 16 runs, including 10 earned, on seven hits in 4.2 innings. He walked 12 and struck out two.
Oakwood visits Alcorn State Sunday. The doubleheader is slated to start at 11 a.m.
