ADAMS, COHN PLAY WELL IN OAKWOOD LOSS TO RUST COLLEGE IN GCAC ROUND UP

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Trenisha Adams and Hannah Cohn combined for 26 points, but the rest of the team managed only 23 as Oakwood University fell 88-49 to home-standing Rust College Saturday in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in the W.A. McMillan Center.

The Ambassadors led 20-17 after the first quarter and trailed by only five at intermission, before being outscored 35-8 in the third quarter enroute to their sixth straight loss.

Oakwood fell to 4-17 overall and 2-7 in league play, while Rust, which swept the season series, improved to 16-3 and 9-0.

Adams (Rome, GA) led the Ambassadors with 14 points. Cohn (Decatur, AL) finished with 12.

Oakwood shot 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the field, including 20 percent (5-of-25) from 3-point range, and 60 percent (12-of-20) from the free throw line. The Ambassadors hurt themselves with 23 turnovers.

Ahmari Young led four Rust players in double figures with 17 points.

The Bearkats shot 41.8 percent (33-of-79) from the field, including 33.3 percent (8-of-24) from 3-point range, and 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the charity stripe. Rust outscored Oakwood 25-7 in points off turnovers, 16-6 in second-chance points, 42-16 in points in the paint and 48-12 in bench points.

Oakwood takes on Southern University New Orleans today at noon.
