HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Oakwood University had four players finish in double figures, but it wasn't nearly enough as Rust College stormed to an early lead and never looked back in an 81-64 victory Saturday night in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in the W.A. McMillan Center.
The Bearkats led 40-18 at intermission and while the Ambassadors scored 46 points in the second half, they never got back in the game.
The loss, Oakwood's 11
th in a row, dropped the Ambassadors to 2-18 and 0-9 in league play. Rust improved to 9-12 and 6-3.
Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL) led Oakwood with 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
A'drelin Robinson (Tallahassee, FL) finished with 14 points, while
Chris Davis (Washington, DC) and Robert Booker (Laurel, MD) chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively. Davis was 6-of-7 from the field and had seven rebounds.
The Ambassadors shot 46 percent (23-of-50) from the field, including 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from 3-point range, and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line.
Ronald Berkley III led three Rust players in double figures with 22 points.
The Bearkats shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field, including 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from 3-point range, and 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the charity stripe.
Oakwood is back in action Sunday against Southern University New Orleans. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
