KENNARD'S BIG GAME HELPS OAKWOOD BEAT SUNO TO SNAP 11-GAME LOSING STREAK

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Nicholas Kennard scored a career-high 21 points and two of his teammates also finished in double figures as Oakwood University snapped an 11-game losing streak Sunday afternoon in an 84-75 victory over Southern University at New Orleans in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up at Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in the W.A. McMillan Center.

Kennard (Antioch, TN) was lights out shooting the ball, making 8-of-13 field goals, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL) had 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while Felix McGhee (Montgomery, AL) finished with 15 points, three assists and two rebounds in just 11 minutes. McGhee was 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Chris Davis (Washington, DC) only had three points, but grabbed 11 rebounds, had four blocked shots and three assists.

The Ambassadors led 27-24 with just over five minutes left in the first half, but used a 16-4 run to go up 43-28 at halftime and SUNO never threatened after that. Oakwood led by as many as 18 points on a couple of occasions, the last time at 69-51 on a 3-pointer by Kennard midway through the second half.

Oakwood improved to 3-18 overall and 1-9 in league play with the win. SUNO fell to 2-18 and 0-10.

The Ambassadors shot 44.6 percent (29-of-65) from the field, including 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range, and 89.5 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line.

Caleb Williams led SUNO with 15 points. Isaiah Sanders and Devin Daniels finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Knights shot 42.9 percent (30-of-70) from the field, including 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood is back in action Friday at the GCAC Round Up at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.

The Ambassadors will take on Tougaloo College Friday at noon, Wiley Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and SUNO Sunday at noon.
