OAKWOOD FALLS APART AFTER GREAT START IN LOSS TO TOUGALOO

MARSHALL, Texas – Oakwood University gave Tougaloo College, the top team in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, all it wanted in a nine-point loss almost three weeks ago at Ashby Auditorium.

Things started out much the same Friday afternoon in the GCAC Round Up at Wiley College. Unfortunately, things unraveled quickly.

After Nicholas Kennard (Antioch, TN) drained a 3-pointer to pull the Ambassadors within 20-19 with just under 12 minutes left in the first half, the Bulldogs outscored Oakwood 30-11 the rest of the half  to take a commanding lead at intermission enroute to a 90-75 victory at Alumni Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 3-19 overall and 1-10 in league play. Tougaloo improved to 23-1 and 11-0.

The Ambassadors outscored the Bulldogs 45-40 in the second half, but the outcome had already been decided.

Chris Davis (Washington, DC) led four Oakwood players in double figures with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Robert Booker II (Laurel, MD) had 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while A'drelin Robinson (Tallahassee, FL) and Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL) finished with 11 and 10, respectively.

The Ambassadors shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the field, including 40 percent (8-of-20) from 3-point range, and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the charity stripe.
Antonio Patterson and Trajan Fielder led four Tougaloo players in double figures with 18 points apiece. Daryl Jones finished with 14 points, while Andre' Brunt added 10.

The Bulldogs shot 63.8 percent (37-of-58) from the field, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point range, and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.
Oakwood takes on Wiley College tonight at 8:30.
