MARSHALL, Texas – After playing one of its best halves of basketball of the season, Oakwood University couldn't duplicate it in the second half as Wiley College came from behind to claim a 66-53 victory Saturday night at Alumni Gymnasium in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Round Up.
The Ambassadors led 28-21 at intermission, but the Wildcats outscored them 45-25 in the second half to come away with the win.
Oakwood fell to 3-10 overall and 1-11 in league play. Wiley improved to 12-10 and 7-5.
Judelin Prophete (Miami, FL) led the Ambassadors with 11 points, while
Chris Davis (Washington, DC) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Nobody else had more than eight.
Oakwood shot 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the field, including 28 percent in the second half when Wiley mounted its comeback. The Ambassadors shot 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from 3-point range and 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free throw line.
Demarius Houston led Wiley with 15 points. Jalen Brown had 11 and Maurice Harvey and Kameron Fitzpatrick had 10 apiece.
The Wildcats shot 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field, including 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from 3-point range, and 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the charity stripe.
Oakwood takes on Southern University at New Orleans today at 2 p.m.
The Ambassadors return home Tuesday night to take on Miles College before hosting Fisk University Thursday night in the last game of the regular season.
